MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – The cause of a fatal vehicle-pedestrian crash that closed U.S. Highway 26 in Madras for about four hours Saturday night remains under investigation, Oregon State Police said Monday.

OSP and other agencies responded to the crash around 7:25 p.m. on Highway 26 near the intersection with Northeast Poplar Street, troopers said.

A preliminary investigation found that a 22-year-old Warm Springs man was driving a Chevy Impala heading north on the highway when he struck and fatally injured pedestrian Albert Lloyd French III, 70, of Madras, in the northbound B (left-hand) lane near the intersection, OSP said.

French died at the crash scene and the car’s occupants were unhurt, the agency said.

OSP was assisted by Madras Police and ODOT.
