Heating up into the weekend

Hello Central Oregon we made it to Friday! Expect conditions to be much like they were yesterday. Perhaps even a degree or two warmer. Tomorrow promises to be even hotter for the final weekend of summer! Get your grills out!

A strong area of high pressure now sits over the western U.S. with a ridge forming along the axis of the Cascade Range. We can expect very dry and smoke-free air for today as the entire region sits in the “Good” AQI zone as of this morning. Winds will be moderate but may pick up a bit this afternoon.

On Saturday, the ridge will shift eastward while low pressure develops off coast of California. The potential for resulting breezy to gusty conditions, in some areas, in combination with the dry air aloft could bring concern for extreme fire behavior. This will mainly affect portions of southeastern Oregon and we’ll keep you posted on those conditions as they develop.

Today highs will be in the upper 80s and 90s across the High Desert. Overnight lows have warmed a few degrees, as well, into the upper 40s and low 50s. Tomorrow may bring record temperatures in some areas so make plans to stay cool!
