Bend police, CERT Team arrest Bend assault suspect in Sunriver, find 2 loaded guns in car, rounds in chambers
SUNRIVER. Ore. (KTVZ) – Bend police, assisted by the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team, arrested a Bend man in Sunriver Monday morning in an assault late last week in southwest Bend, officers said, and two loaded guns, with rounds in their chambers, were found in his car.
The 35-year-old is charged with fourth-degree assault after an assault last week in the 100 block of SW Hayes Avenue, police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said.
Because of the man’s “extensive criminal history and access to firearms,” police activated the CERT Team to assist in the man’s arrest, she said.
CERT members contacted the man around 7:30 a.m. in the 56000 block of Venture Lane, in the Sunriver Business Park, and took him into custody without incident.
Officers found a handgun in the front seat of the man’s car, and an AR-15 rifle with no serial number was found in the trunk, Miller said, adding that “both guns were loaded and had rounds in their chambers.”
The suspect was booked into the Deschutes County Jail in Bend on charges of fourth-degree assault, three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and DUII. He remained held Monday afternoon, pending arraignment on the charges.
