Active, well-known Bend centenarian Honey Canney passes away, three months shy of her 108th birthday

Her frequent answer to the secret of a long life: 'To love and be loved.'

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A celebration of life memorial service is planned this Saturday for Honey Canney, a long-time Bend resident who died peacefully, with family by her side, on October 11th. She was 107 years old.

Honey was well-known in Bend. Her milestone birthdays were celebrated by friends, family, and the local media. She passed away three months shy of her 108th birthday.

Olga "Honey" Canney was always asked the question, what was her secret to a long life?  She gave the same answer, year after year: “To love and to be loved.”

She never forgot to share her love and genuine concern for others, and was a positive impact to so many people here in Deschutes County, friends and family said.

Honey became a Bend resident in 1973. She could be found teaching water aerobics at Bend Golf and Country Club, or enjoying her favorite burger at Dandy’s. She knew the importance of staying active, appreciating the simple things, and surrounding herself with people she loved.

Honey also knew the importance of giving back to the community and was a volunteer at St. Charles Hospital for nearly three decades.

There are so many people that Honey touched in Bend. Her family wanted to let the community know her celebration of her life will be held this Saturday, November 4th at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Bend. The memorial mass will be at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
