Mt. Bachelor closes on Sunday for safety reasons, suspended through Tuesday

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- After celebrating opening day on Saturday, Mt. Bachelor abruptly shut down operations Sunday. All lifts were closed for the safety of employees and guests. On their website for the snow report, it says flooding, heavy rain, and standing water concerns, along with dangerous road conditions led to this decision.

Heavy rain during early season can be detrimental to the snowpack. The team is working to control the impact for the next 24 hours.

Mt. Bachelor says this is not a decision that was taken lightly, but is necessary given the conditions. The ski resort is going to be suspending operations through Tuesday. The resort will assess conditions daily with the goal of reopening Wednesday morning.
