Fog possible early, mostly clear afternoon ahead

Happy Tuesday! Pockets of light rain and even a bit of snow in the mountains are possible this morning before sunrise.  Additionally, pockets of fog and dense fog are possible this morning. This afternoon should bring partly sunny conditions and temperatures in the 40s.  These temperatures should allow for more significant melting of area snow and ice but beware of large puddles and possibly significant runoff during the melting period.

Another weather disturbance will be moving in off the Pacific and bringing another round of precipitation late tonight and into tomorrow.  The series of rain and snow will continue off and on the rest of the week, with the timing typically being overnight when lows will be around freezing so the timing of any precipitation will decide whether the precipitation is liquid or frozen or a mix of both.

There is a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until noon today due to possible visibility of 1/4 mile or less in Central Oregon including the cities of Bend, Madras, Prineville, and Redmond.  Additionally, there may be localized sheltered spots with below freezing temperatures resulting in freezing fog, which may cause slick roadways and other surfaces. Conditions on roads may be dangerous.

Also, there’s a Special Weather Statement to the north of our forecast area including portions of Wasco county through the morning for Patchy fog and freezing fog, some of which could be locally dense. Also, the possibility of black ice may forming from the refreezing of melted snow.

Wind will be out of the Southwest, in the 5-10 mph range and appear to be calming a bit by the early afternoon. Highs will likely be in the 40s today and overnight lows continue to linger in the upper 20s and low 30s.
