More snow on the way as we ‘spring forward’
Snow is likely to overtake the mountains early Saturday and will linger through the next several days.
Snowfall totals along the crest of the Cascades are going to be in the 1 – 2 ft range by Monday morning.
There is currently a Winter Weather Advisory for Linn and Marion counties for the entire weekend (4 am Saturday through Monday at 5 am).
At lower elevations, the region will see significantly less snow, and a mix of rain and snow is still possible, but not nearly as much snow as what is being forecast for the Cascades, less than an inch is being projected by a number of weather models.
Temperatures will be in the 40s, not much snow at that temperature, but if the snowfall is overnight or before sunrise, which is possible, there will be some snow on the roads early in the day, then it will melt by noon.
Winds will pick up as we move through the weekend, but once again, mainly across the mountains. The winds will be clocked at 40+ mph at times along the ridgelines, and will blow around the snow, reducing visibility.
Sunday will be similar to Saturday as mountain snow piles up and the winds will be robust. High Desert precipitation will be mainly early in the day, and probably more of a mix. After noon, the region will be partly to mostly cloudy.
Be sure to move your clocks up an hour on Sunday night.
