Dry pattern ending Thursday, wet and cooler over the weekend

Moving forward into the weekend the Pacific Northwest will experience a shift in the weather pattern. We will be going from several days of sunshine to several days under mostly cloudy skies.

Wednesday will be the last day of sunshine for a spell as a rainy period begins Thursday.  Ahead of a cold front, that will drop our temps by about 10 – 12 degrees, there will be some brisk winds.  Winds will be ahead of the front and be in the 15 – 20 mph range at times, from the Southwest.

The shift in the overall pattern begins on Thursday as a cold front will have passed late Wednesday and the cooler and rainy period begins. The rain on Thursday is likely to be widespread and provide us with a good, slow soaking rain.  The amount of moisture will not be all that impressive, around a quarter of an inch or less, but it will be persistent.  Air temperatures will drop significantly, only reaching the middle to upper 50s.

Friday will be a day defined by mostly cloudy skies and a few showers. The rain will be light and occasional with little to no sunshine.  Temperatures will be in the 50s under the cloud cover and light rain.

Saturday will see about an inch or so of snow above 6000 feet so travel over the passes will be inhibited by the slick roads.  Slushy and overnight ice may be an issue this weekend through the Cascades.  The high desert looks to be cloudy with a stray shower from time to time, but generally, dry.

Sunday should be dry and mild with highs near 60, then Monday and Tuesday will return to the cloudy and showery pattern.
