Hot weekend ahead with isolated storms Sunday

Oregon is dealing with dozens of fires that have been burning since the thunderstorms rolled through Tuesday and Tuesday night. The pattern has remained hot and dry and there is now another round of storms likely for Sunday. Dry lightning and gusty winds will accompany the storms and that is a recipe for more fire danger.

The erratic winds near the storms will fan the fires that are currently consuming thousands of acres.  The lightning may spark several more fires, so the thought of more thunderstorms is a big concern.

The last round of dry thunderstorms only provided about a tenth of an inch of rain, so no relief to the vegetation.  This heat has been relentless as we have seen the mercury in the thermometer cross 90 for the past 16 days.  This persistent heat and sunshine have dried out the fuel on the ground, so any fire will spread rapidly.

The temperatures this weekend will be in the low 100s and upper 90s both Saturday and Sunday. The winds near the storms will gust near 40 mph so batten down the hatches.

If you are planning any outdoor activities this weekend, which most of us do, please be safe.  Stay hydrated and wear loose fitting and light colored cloths.  If you hear any thunder, get to shelter quickly.
