Heat wave continues, spotty dry thunderstorms possible Sunday
Expect to see another day with the temperatures reaching into the triple digits. This will be the third weekend in a row that Bend and Redmond have crossed that threshold. The last two weekends have been hot and dry, but this weekend we are hot, dry and smoky.
The dry thunderstorms Tuesday night sparked several wildfires throughout Oregon, and the smoke is drifting in from all directions. No matter where the wind is coming from, it will transport some smoke to Central Oregon, since we are basically surrounded.
The AQI, or air quality index, is expected to be in the unhealthy range for most of the weekend. Stay inside as much as you can, and keep you air conditioner or air filters working for you.
The showers and storms slated for Sunday are likely to be dry thunderstorms and the rain may not make it to the ground. Dry thunderstorms are what started most of the fires this week, and I am concerned that this weekends rains and storm will start more.
Stay safe everyone, it will be a hot day today and tomorrow.
