Hot temperatures continue, but a break is on the way

We will remain in the 90s for the first half of this week. Today will be low and mid 90s across the high desert. Breezy conditions will be of concern today, fanning the surrounding fires.

Last night, parts of Central Oregon saw some isolated showers and storms with lightning detected which was another concern for wildfires. The state is currently ablaze, wildfires sparking very easily, growing and spreading rapidly. This heat wave has made the surface so very dry, creating the perfect fuel for fire growth. Air quality has been wavering, but generally has not been good. We have seen some very hazy conditions and can expect it to remain.

The upper-level ridge of high pressure that has been dominating the West will remain overhead until Wednesday. Come Thursday, we welcome a new pattern! An upper-level low pressure system pushes into our region from the west, bringing our temperatures down a bit. We will finally break the streak of 90+ degree days and be in the mid and upper 80s, which isn’t much different from where we normally are this time of year.

This has been a record-breaking summer thus far for high and average temperatures. The record average high temp for the month of July is 91.2 degrees. This record was set in 1906. We are currently above that and will keep updating until the month finishes out.
