Bend Police Dept. moves National Night Out event to Bear Creek Elementary; Redmond PD also outlines Aug. 6 plans
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) - The Bend Police Department will host its National Night Out at Bear Creek Elementary School from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, part of a nationwide annual event to promote community ties with law enforcement.
The event was originally slated to take place at Bend High, but that location is no longer available due to the school district’s recent announcement that it must begin demolishing the school’s auditorium.
"Instead, Bend Police hope you’ll join us for the festivities at Bear Creek Elementary School, 51 NE 13th Street, Bend," they said in their announcement, which continues in full below (followed by Redmond Police plans for that night).
The event, Bend’s community night out, is part of a nationwide program designed to foster strong relationships between the community and law enforcement.
This family-friendly, completely free event will feature tons of fun and free treats. A DJ will be spinning tunes and a variety of vehicles will be on display for kids and adults alike to check out, including a Bend Police patrol car, the police BearCat and a fire engine. You'll find police officers dishing out hot dogs and other treats, as well as lawn games, facepainting and a bounce house.
Throughout the evening, Bend Police will be on site to demonstrate its unmanned aerial systems (drones) and show off members of the K9 unit.

Redmond Police Department to Host National Night Out Community Event in Centennial Park
- Bringing Police and Neighbors Together
REDMOND, OREGON - On Tuesday, August 6, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. the City of Redmond Police Department (RPD) will host a National Night Out community event at Centennial Park. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. The event is free to attend, including all family friendly activities, live performance by Precious Bryd, sno-cones, and a barbecue.
Enjoy K-9 demos, Dunk-a-Cop tank, face painting, music, bouncy houses, emergency service vehicles on display and much more. RPD community partners will host information and activity booths and there will even be a donut eating contest.
Centennial Park’s splash pad will remain open till to 8:00 p.m., so kiddos may enjoy running through the water fountains during Redmond’s National Night Out event.
“National Night Out is not only a welcoming venue for community members of all ages to meet the dedicate officers, and support team members that comprise the Redmond Police Department and learn about the diverse skills and tools required in their profession,” states Mayor Ed Fitch. “It’s also an opportunity for our residents to gather, make connections, make friends, and enjoy a summer night with family.”
