Cloudy and warm to start the week, hot temperatures to end it

Today, with the arrival of a cold front and a good amount of moisture in our mid and upper atmosphere, we can expect mostly cloudy skies and a noticeable breeze in the evening. The cold front and cloudy conditions won’t necessarily mean cold temperatures either, but we’ll be a few degrees below normal for today and tomorrow with highs only reaching the low 80s.

Areas along the Cascades and to the north of us will see some scattered showers today. These systems will move into northeast Oregon through the very late night hours.

We will start to heat up mid-week. Parts of the region will see temperatures reach 90 on Wednesday. We’ll continue to heat up even more throughout the week and will hit those upper 90s, even triple digits in some spots again by the weekend.

Smoke from the surrounding wildfires will continue to impact our air quality. Over 1 million acres have burned this 2024 wildfire season in Oregon. Firefighters are currently fighting multiple “megafires” across the state. Air quality yesterday reached unhealthy and even very unhealthy levels in some areas. It’s not going to be great today either. Winds will be coming from mostly the west today. Protect yourself from the air pollution and limit outdoor activities when AQI levels are unhealthy.

Fire weather concerns will increase late this week with more hot, dry, and breezy conditions.
