The heat makes its return today
Today we see those temperatures jump back into the 90s. We’ll be in the upper 80s and low 90s across the region. Tomorrow is when the heat really kicks into high gear. Some areas will be seeing those triple digits again and we’ll remain hot for at least the next week. I expect heat alerts to come out for our area in the next day or so.
Another ridge of high pressure has centered itself over the west, and it’s another biggy. When large systems like this build, they’re hard to break down and they don’t move very much. Sometimes, if they’re big enough, they’ll even move backwards a little. Since this is a larger ridge, it’ll be with us for a while. We will have some low pressure systems high in the sky that will help to chip away at it, but be prepared for the extended, extreme heat and stay safe.
We saw clouds and even some spotty showers early this week but drier air has moved into our region, so we can expect those sunny skies to accompany the heat today.
Breezy conditions this weekend, along with the hot and dry air will increase fire danger.
Air quality today continues to improve today. Sunday and Monday we saw incredibly poor air quality but favorable winds have helped to clear our region from a lot of that smoke. This morning, air quality is mostly moderate, or good. Winds today look variable today which means the smoke will be moving in a number of different directions as it shifts throughout the day. For the most part, air quality should remain pretty moderate.
Air quality alerts remain over Jefferson and Deschutes County. Refer to the banner for the most updated alerts.
Happy Wednesday, enjoy the nice day, and be safe!
