Skies clear today while the heat lingers
This weekend was a cloudy one. Saturday was overcast nearly the whole day while Sunday had a little more clearing but was still mostly cloudy. We saw some isolated storms and showers throughout the weekend. Breezy and hot conditions increased potential for fire danger on Saturday.
We will open this week with sunnier skies but the heat will remain. Most areas will be in the low 90s today while some areas like Redmond, and north into Jefferson County will see the mid 90s. The heat won’t be as hot as we saw at the end of last week or as hot as we saw last month, but we should remain a few degrees above normal through the work week with highs at or around 90.
Air quality is looking moderate to unhealthy. Winds coming from the north-northwest most of the day should help to keep a lot of smoke from the surrounding fires out of our region. The Elk Lane Fire just north and west of Madras started last night, and is currently sitting around 300 acres. Air quality in Madras will be negatively affected by this today.
Looking a little outside our forecast region, Hurricane Debby is forecasted to make landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida today as a Category 1 hurricane. It will travel northeast, along the Atlantic coast upwards into the Carolinas. It is expected to produce dangerously high winds, extremely heavy rainfall totals–upwards of 20 inches in some areas, and a potentially life-threatening storm surge along the Gulf Coast through the first half of the week. Debby will likely be catastrophic, as it makes its way over very populated areas in Florida.
Happy Monday, have a great day!
