Very warm pattern today and Sunday along with poor air quality

The fires continue to burn to our east, north, west and south moving foreword through the weekend. They will be providing smoke to Central Oregon no matter what direction the wind will be blowing. This will unfortunately be the case for the next several weeks. The air quality will vary depending on the amount of smoke that gets transported into the region on the winds.  Since the fires are located around the state, it will not be difficult for the smoke to arrive in Central Oregon. So, the air quality will not be improving for at least another week.

What will be changing over the next few days will be the temperature profile. The afternoon highs today will be in the low to middle 90s and the upper 80s Sunday. As we move into the new work week, we can look forward to the highs in the low 80s. Normal high for Bend in mid-August is around 85.

Rain chances are very low this weekend, but a rogue thunderstorm in the east or over the mountains can’t be ruled out. The chance of thunderstorms is around 10% or less in the Northern and Eastern portions of Oregon, but a stray shower is still possible in Central Oregon this weekend.  Not much of a chance, but it is not zero.
