Humane Society of C.O. in Bend offers reduced adoption fees to help Clear the Shelters

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Humane Society of Central Oregon is joining with NewsChannel 21 and participating in the nationwide effort to Clear the Shelters.

HSCO has been serving the community since 1961. Its mission is to strengthen the human-animal bond by advocating and compassionately caring for animals.

They are having an open house on Saturday, Sept. 7, where you can expect reduced adoption fees. 

"All of our adopters are going to have the opportunity to spin a will for an adoption discount of minimally half off to 100% off the adoption fee," said Lynne Ouchida, HSCO's director of community partnerships. "We want to make this fun for everyone, not only the adopters, but our entire community."

There are currently more than 30 dogs and more than 50 cats at the shelter, where kitten Honey Pie and cats like Lucy are looking for their fur-ever homes.

Dogs like Prim, a pit bull mix, and Luke, a cattle dog mix, are also looking forward to going on walks and running around. 

HSCO also has other animals, like rabbits and guinea pigs. Adoptions for all of the animals include spaying, neutering, vaccinations and a microchip.

There are some animals that are more difficult to place than others -- the ones that arrive with no training.

Ouchida said, "The love that this community has for animals, we are just fortunate to be able to provide the services for the people and the animals in our community."

The Humane Society of Central Oregon is also looking for several fosters who can take care of adult cats and dogs, as well as puppies and kittens. The application can be found on their website.
