Drying out and chilly, rain and mountain snow return late Saturday

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for late in the weekend, generally for the west facing slopes of the Cascades. Most of the snow will not make it over the mountains and into the 97 Highway cities. There will be rain and a wintry mix though Sunday.

The rounds of light rain and mountain snow are coming to a close for a couple of days.  The persistent pattern is taking a short break, but will resume with cold rain and mountain snow late Saturday and linger into Monday morning.  Once again, the temperatures are just cool enough to threaten some snow over the High Desert, but not produce much accumulating snow.  Mostly a wintry mix is expected Sunday, but late in the afternoon Sunday there should be some light snow and patchy ice.

The temperatures overnight are going to be in the 20s for the next several days except for Sunday morning when we only dip to the middle 30s. Each afternoon for the near future will see temperatures in the 40s.

The event beginning Saturday evening is going to be a mix of cold rain to start which will linger overnight into Sunday morning. As the day moves along a cold front will push through and provide a wintry mix of rain and snow.  Behind the front will be some lingering snow showers that may accumulate on roads and grassy areas and provide some icy conditions into Monday morning.

The weekend will be divided into a dry start followed by a rather messy finish. Fall is a tough transition from the mild to the cold and it usually is defined by several weather events that are not snow, but nearly snow (wintry mix).  The dangerous part of the mix is the potential for icy roadways. Please be careful this season when driving around late at night or early in the morning when patchy ice is potentially present.

Please Stay Safe.

The ski resorts are happy with all this activity, the snow totals are impressive. Bachelor and Meadows are opening Friday, Timberline is already spinning the lifts.
