Wintry mix of precipitation over the weekend, extending into next week

There was a “bluebird day” at Mt. Bachelor for the first day of the new season, it was about as perfect as it gets. Sunny skies today and cold through Central Oregon as we get a bit of a break from the rainy and gray pattern. Don’t get too used to it, the weather will be returning to the off and on rain and mix for the next several days.

There will be a cold front working through the region Sunday which will provide some rain and snow.  Saturday, ahead of the cold front, we will be in the milder, or warm sector. During this period, late Saturday into Sunday, I expect to see some rain, possibly mixed with snow south of Lava Butte. The rain will be light and lingering into Sunday.

Sunday will be a day of transition from rainy to snowy.

There has been a Winter Storm Watch issued by the NWS for Sunday afternoon through Monday evening along the east face of the Cascades. Already a watch for the west face. Up to 10" is expected on the crest of the mountains, up to 3 - 4" possible from Lava Butte to La Pine by the time Monday evening rolls around.

Monday looks to be a snowy day, with off and on snow showers south of Bend but not excluding Bend. I will update the totals as we get more information, but currently it looks like wet flakes from Bend north and east, accumulating snow (3- 5") from Lava Butte South.

The wet pattern looks to take hold again as we move through next week as the rain and snow will persist off and on. Temperatures are forecast to stay well above freezing each afternoon, so the precipitation that falls will be more of a cold rain.  Depending on the timing, there may be some overnight snow mixed in at some of our higher elevated towns like Sisters, La Pine, and Sunriver.

Please Stay Safe.
