Dry and mild conditions today and Sunday
The last day of the meteorological autumn is today, that is the period of time between summer and winter. The meteorological winter is defined by the three coldest months of the year in the northern hemisphere, December, January and February. This is mainly for much more accurate record keeping and seasonal averages and records.
The astronomical winter is defined by the relationship of the Earth and the Sun. The direct rays of the sun will be over the Tropic of Cancer at 1:19 am December 21st. This is the shortest day of the year with only 8 hours and 52 minutes of daylight.
As for the weather, expect to see plenty of sunshine today and Sunday with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. An area of high pressure will drift over the region keeping any moisture drifting into Oregon from the north to stay north, and any moisture moving into the state from California will stay south.
Next week it will be dry as well. There is not much change in the pattern, but we may see some high clouds will drift overhead Monday afternoon. No rain is expected in Central Oregon until next weekend.
If you are planning to hit the local ski resorts this weekend, it will be dry and mostly sunny.
