Persistent patchy freezing fog, rain returns Saturday
The freezing fog will linger over the region into the night and early Friday morning. The NWS has reduced the coverage area of the advisory, excluding Jefferson, Deschutes, and Crook Counties. This may be readjusted later tonight as the area as the region shows little signs of the fog relenting. As the night moves along there may, once again, be a concern with limited visibility and icy conditions.
The area of high pressure responsible for the “lid” being placed over the high desert is still in place. There is a cold front approaching from the west which may help to scour out the mist, but that is not until Saturday. The likelihood of the fog breaking up before that is low. Expect to see more freezing fog tonight and early Friday.
The front that is expected Saturday will bring rainy conditions in the afternoon. The timing of the rain is currently for around mid-day Saturday and the light rain will be falling in cool air. The high is expected to be around 50 but with the rain, it may drop quickly into the mid to low 40s. The Bend Parade is Saturday, rain or shine, and it looks to be more likely to be rain than shine.
After the front moves east Saturday night the region will have to deal with a continued cool pattern. Snow is possible, albeit light and spotty, Sunday as the front pulls away. The mountains are looking at getting snow Saturday and Sunday, so our area snow riders and skiers are going to see higher numbers this weekend with respect to our snow base.
Cold nights and dry days are in the cards for next week, highs will be in the 40s and lows in the 20s.
Please stay safe.
