Central Oregon is heating up, temperatures peak Monday

A strong ridge of high pressure is settling in, ushering in a stretch of hot days. Afternoon highs climbed into the 80s and low 90s today, and we'll be couple degrees warmer on Sunday.

We're expecting mostly clear skies overnight with lows in the 50s.

There are heat alerts issued for portions of Oregon beginning tomorrow. As of now, our tri-county area is not under any heat advisories or warnings.

However, a Yellow Local Alert Weather Day has been issued for Monday, as temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 90s.

Seeing 90-degree heat this early in the season is uncommon, and coming after two already hot days on Saturday and Sunday, this stretch of heat will be even more impactful.

In early June, typical high temperatures are in the low 70s.

A hot and dry pattern can also increase the risk of wildfires, creating conditions that can cause flames to ignite and spread quickly.

Enjoy the warm weather, but stay safe! Hiking early in the morning is often a better choice than heading out in the afternoon heat.
