Early rain and a chance for isolated storms

BEND, Ore (KTVZ)- A Local Alert Weather Day has been issued.

UPDATE: FLASH FLOOD WATCH RELEASED FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL OREGON TODAY. MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL UNDERNEATH THUNDERSTORMS COULD PRODUCE FLASH FLOODING AND POSSIBLE DEBRIS FLOWS.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH OVER OCHOCO-JOHN DAY HIGHLANDS OVER BURN SCARS UNTIL 8PM

Storms moved across Central Oregon last night, bringing some much needed rain. Totals ranged from a few hundredths of an inch to upwards of 0.25-0.40” underneath storms. Showers with isolated storms embedded within them will continue through the first part of the morning. We should see some clearing before lunchtime today, but clouds will remain.

The forecast has updated and it looks increasingly more likely that we’ll see at least one or two isolated storms develop this afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has included all of Central Oregon in the “general risk” for thunderstorms today but the main areas of impact will be Deschutes and Crook County.

Most people won’t have to adjust their July Fourth plans too much but make sure you have a plan in place to get to a safer location if you’re out on the water, hiking, etc. and a storm rolls through. Being on water, in an open field, underneath trees, on top of high peaks are very dangerous places to be during a thunderstorm.

Rain-cooled air and cold cover will only have our temperatures topping out in the low to mid 70s.

If you’re thinking about adjusting your holiday plans, you shouldn’t have a single worry in sight for Saturday and Sunday. Plan for warm, sunny, stable conditions. Highs will be in the 80s.

Next week will be hot again, with a string of 90+ degree days.

Have a happy Fourth of July and please be safe today.
