Cloudy and below normal temperatures today, heat returns this weekend

(KTVZ Bend, Ore).  Mostly cloudy skies will define the day, along with a few stray showers.  The mercury in the thermometer is only going to reach the upper 70s as the clouds and rain cooled air keep us below our normal high of 85.

The showers will be light today and, unfortunately, not very beneficial to our region.  Currently the Tri-Counties are in need of water, even though we got significant rain this weekend, it was not absorbed well by the soil.

Thursday will be another cool day as the flow of air arrives from the northwest. This will usher in the cooler air and keep the high temps in the upper 70s. Winds will be from the northwest and will reach speeds near 10 – 20 mph at times.  In the morning, we are going to see mostly to partly cloudy skies then partial clearing as the day moves along.

Friday will get us back to normal, temperature-wise, as we reach the middle 80s.  Expect to see sunny skies and a light breeze most of the day.

The warm up continues into the weekend with highs on Saturday approaching the 90° mark.  A large ridge of high pressure reaches the Pacific Northwest and will stick around until the middle of next week.

Highs on Monday and Tuesday reach the mid-90s under the dome of sinking air. Highs Wednesday are a degree or two lower, but still hot.  This mini-heat wave will end next Thursday as the temps return to the low to middle 80s.
