Warmer and dry pattern this week

BEND, Ore (KTVZ) The pattern this week will be quiet and dry as the dominating ridge of high pressure over the western U.S. remains in place. This feature is going to keep any moisture from arriving in Oregon as well as allowing the region to warm up.

Plenty of sunshine this week with highs in the middle 80s to start the week, middle 90s over the upcoming weekend. The warm-up becomes noticeable on Thursday as the mercury in the thermometer reaches the upper 80s and low 90s. Prior to that we will still be warmer than normal, topping out in the middle 80s.  Normal for mid to late August is around 83.

The cloud cover will be limited Tuesday but there may be some cloud cover drift under the ridge on Wednesday. No rain is expected, just a few clouds drifting overhead.

As mentioned above, the weekend will be much warmer than normal as the ridge drifts west. This will allow the solar energy to combine with the sinking air to get us back to the 90s. A short lived heat wave of 90-degree temperatures and above will start Friday and linger into at least Monday.

A stout reminder of our summer patterns reaching the 90s several days each year.
