Red Flag Warning through Monday night, multiple chances for thunderstorms this week

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) - Central Oregon is holding onto the heat. Highs will run in the low to upper 90s through Tuesday, keeping the Heat Advisory in place.

We’ll begin to cool midweek, with highs back in the upper 80s to mid 90s by Wednesday.

Afternoon/evening thunderstorm chances are increasing as some monsoonal moisture drifts north into the region. Isolated storms are possible across Central Oregon for the next few days, including today. Stronger storms could bring some heavier rainfall.

Winds should stay mostly light to breezy this week. Remember, if storms develop, these can bring gusty winds which can create more issues regarding wildfires.

Hot temperatures, very dry air, and an unstable air mass has the potential to create significant plume-dominated fire growth in the area surrounding the Flat Fire. A Red Flag Warning will remain in effect until tomorrow night due to these critical fire weather conditions.

Make sure you’re keeping an eye on the air quality in your area. We are still under an Air Quality Alert until Monday night, so limit outdoor activities and keep your kids indoors if it is smoky. Poor overnight humidity recovery and low ventilation mean fires smoke will likely stay trapped near the surface until we see some improvements in the afternoon.

Heat, smoke, and storms are all in the forecast, so make sure you’re staying up to date on the KTVZ weather app. There's a lot going on and we want you to stay safe!
