LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAY: Friday, Showers and storms expected late Friday, rainy pattern ahead

There is a need to be weather aware for the next several days as rainy and stormy weather is taking over the region. Once we say goodbye to the ridge of high pressure that has kept us hot for the past week, the next pattern will be rainy and cooler.

Friday will start out on the sunny side, but as the day moves along there will be some isolated storms develop in the heat of the day.  The storms are expected to line up and be fairly robust at around 5 pm.

The chance for abundant lightning has our local alert weather team issuing a Local Alert Day for the late day storms and lightning Friday afternoon.

These will be storms that will pack a decent amount of lightning and for brief periods, produce heavy downpours.  If you are out and about on Friday afternoon, keep an eye to the sky.

The storms tomorrow will be fast movers and out of the region by 8 pm. This should be the round of storms that busts the heat for a while. The clouds moving in ahead of the storms tomorrow will be able to keep the mercury from hitting the 90s again.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Central Oregon and a Fire Weather Watch surrounding it to the north and east. Due to the storms that may generate gusts near 40 mph and dangerous lightning the criteria has been met for those alerts.

Saturday looks to be warm with a few storms developing in the afternoon. Highs on Saturday will be in the middle 80s ahead of the spotty showers and isolated storms.

This will be a rinse and repeat for Sunday but with highs in the upper 70s, not the 80s.

Monday will be pretty much a washout as far as rainy and stormy weather goes. This may well be another Local Alert Day as the widespread rain will impact the whole of Central Oregon.

The pattern remains the rest of the week, but with a more rainy  scenario than a stormy one.

Please, Stay safe.
