Clear, dry, and mild start to the week, supermoon tonight
(KTVZ, Bend Ore.) Dry and mild pattern to start the week but some big changes are expected by the end of the week.
We will experience a sunny and dry pattern to start the work week with high temperatures in the 70s. This period of above normal weather will be short lived, so if you enjoy the milder fall temps, get out and enjoy.
Fall is a season of change as we say goodbye to the warmth of summer and get ready for the cold winter. Often times there are several swings in the temperatures in this season, so this is nothing new.
By the middle of the week an area of low pressure will drop into the region and provide us with a cooler and wetter pattern. This low will be slow to move out and is expected to spin off the coast then move inland by the weekend.
The wet pattern will begin on Thursday as the low taps into some moisture over the Pacific. The chance for rain will linger through the weekend and the air mass will be much cooler by then as well.
Saturday and Sunday will only see highs in the 50s so the cold rain will impact the area. Mountain snow, well above the mountain pass elevation, is possible this weekend and Monday. The rain is likely to be with us through the weekend and into next week.
The cold rain may mingle with some snow in some of the higher elevated locations in the high desert next Monday. La Pine may see some accumulations on grassy areas, but since the ground is not frozen, I don’t expect much to build up. Wet and slick roads are possible.
This is well out in the future, so there is plenty of time to fine tune and adjust the forecast for the weekend.
As for the supermoon, tonight is the night. When the moon is closest to the earth and full at the same time, it is a supermoon. This will happen tonight at 8:47 pm. The October full moon nickname is the Harvest Moon, and it will be on display tonight. The supermoon will be 30% brighter than usual, and appear to be 14% larger (but we all know the moon doesn’t grow in size it will just seem that way).

This is the first supermoon of the year and will be the first of three. Yes, we will have supermoons in November and December as well.
Please, Stay safe.
