Popular Oregon restaurant chain making a big comeback in Bend next month
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Central Oregon food fans have something new to look forward to—Elmer’s Restaurant is opening its newest location in Bend on Monday, November 24. They also plan to hire for multiple positions, including supervisory roles.
The Portland-founded chain, known for its pancakes and hearty breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes, is taking over and fully upgrading the former Shari’s restaurant site along Highway 97 in north Bend. Construction crews have been busy replacing the roof and updating the interior to give the location a fresh start.
A sign on the storefront now reads “Now Hiring,” but according to the restaurant’s vice president, the official hiring process begins next week.
The Elmer's renovation is one of five being built or upgraded by Joseph Hughes Construction, across the state of Oregon.
- Roseburg – Completed in June
- Bend – Scheduled for completion in mid-November
- Tualatin & Hillsboro – Targeting early November
- Portland (near the airport) – Currently underway

A Return to Bend
It’s been some time since Elmer’s last operated in Bend. The family-friendly chain ran in the city for about 20 years, starting in 1966. One nostalgic artifact—a matchbook from that earlier restaurant—still lists its former Third Street address, now home to two businesses: Laurie’s Grill and Bamboo Salon.
Hours
Once open, the Bend Elmer’s will serve customers daily from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Holiday hours:
- Thanksgiving: 6:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
- Christmas Eve: 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Christmas Day: Closed
If construction stays on track, Elmer’s Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner will officially welcome guests in time for the holiday weekend on November 24.
