Rain and snow are expected overnight, ending early Thursday morning

Bend, Ore (KTVZ).  There is a line of showers arriving from the west tonight and will bring mountain snow and a mix of rain and snow to the high desert. This will not be a very impressive snow event, in fact, there won’t be much rain either.  The quick passage of this front and the associated mix of rain and snow will limit the accumulation of the precipitation.

The wet weather should be over the Cascades after sunset today and cross into the High Desert around 10 pm or so. This will be mainly a rain event north of Bend and a wintry mix of rain and snow south and west of Bend.  The snow will not accumulate along 97 tomorrow morning, but some slushy conditions are possible.  

Snowfall on the Cascades will provide only about  2 – 3” of snow to the resorts. Travel through the passes will be compromised slightly by the slick conditions and reduced visibility. Expect this to end by noon across the mountains as the event will exit quickly.

The rest of the day will be dry and chilly with temperatures right where they should be for this time of year; the upper 40s.

Friday begins another round of above normal temperatures with highs in the low 50s. Sunny skies and light winds will define the day as we head toward a dry and mild weekend.

Saturday and Sunday will be mostly to partly sunny with highs near 60 each day. The quiet and dry pattern this weekend is not good news for the area resorts as they are scheduled to open shortly.  In fact, Timberline and Mount Hood have pushed back the opening dates from this weekend to next weekend according to “On the Snow” reports.  We have more information on this website in our “snow report” articles.
