Atmospheric River impacting the Pacific Northwest this week

Bend, OR (KTVZ) -

The PNW will be impacted by an Atmospheric River event this week which will bring persistent heavy rainfall across much of the region. While Central Oregon is expected to see rain, there will be a decent amount of rain shadowing, which means most of the rain will fall across the mountains and leave the 97 corridor a bit drier than everyone else.

Plan for light showers today and increasing chances for rain Tuesday. Rain becomes more showery on Wednesday and begins to taper off.

Heavy mountain showers are expected this week. A Flood Watch is active for the Cascade Range and into the Valleys through the end of the week. Persistent, heavy rain will bring the potential for landslides and debris flows in high terrain areas and urban flooding further west.

You can plan for windy and wet weather for the next couple of days. Winds will gust between 25-35mph. Wind Advisories are out to the north and south until Tuesday but do not include Central Oregon. We will still be windy, we just won’t meet the advisory level.

Temperatures this week will be in the 50s and lower 60s, which puts us close to breaking or tying old records. Snow lovers will have to hold out until at least next week.

Have a nice Monday.
