Spotty showers and breezy today, more light rain Thursday

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Not much sunshine until the weekend as the large plume of cloud cover seen from space remains in place for few days. There will be a milder than normal temperature profile with this pattern as the air is migrating from the south and southwest. The rain and snow chances are likely to be present until early Friday. The amount of rain and snow is going to be low or near zero.
Today a passing shower is possible with impact to the area being mainly wet roads and some high-level snow. The resorts are likely to get an inch or so of snow, but not a big payday as the moisture content with this batch is low.
Thursday will be another day with the hint of rain and some mountain snow, but again, very little moisture makes it to the Tri-Counties. Jefferson County will see most of the light rain while southern Deschutes County will be limited to mostly cloudy skies.
Resorts will not see much either, possibly a new inch of snow at Bachelor, Hoodoo and Willamette with more falling at Timberline and the Mt. Hood locations.

Friday we will watch a decent round of rain pass us by as the line of showers will fall over the Valley. Central Oregon will see mostly cloudy to variably cloudy skies Friday. The mercury in the thermometer is likely to be in the 50s from Thursday through Sunday.
Saturday will be dry and mild with highs in the middle 50s. Sunday will see an increase in cloud cover and a slight chance for a passing shower.
Groundhog Day is Monday and we should see a partly cloudy day with highs near 50 or slightly cooler. Normal high for this time of year is 44 in Bend.
Remember, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, he gets frightened and scurries back into his burrow. That means we are expected to see six more weeks of winter. If he comes out on a cloudy day and stays out for a spell, we are expected to get an early spring. The Vernal Equinox, the first day of the Astronomical Spring, is on March 20th this year at 7:46 am. Just a few days past the “six weeks of winter” possible claim by the prognosticating rodent. Just sayin’.
Please, Stay safe.
