A brief break from the wet weather, snow and rain return this weekend

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Plenty of sunshine and crisp wintry conditions today. The clouds and precipitation have taken the day off and we are the beneficiaries. The resorts are enjoying a Bluebird Day as this week’s snow has provided welcomed fun. Highs today will be in the 40s and the winds are light. This is what a typical February day should look like.

Don’t get to used to it, as we are about to embark on another run of wet weather.
Clouds move in later this evening ahead of some snow overnight. The snow is expected to fall overnight and most of the precipitation will be done before sunrise. There may be some lingering wintry mix in Jefferson County before noon, but overall, the showers will not last. The Cascades may still see off and on snow most of the day, so travel through the passes may be slow and slick. Most of Saturday will be salvaged by the quick exit of the early morning snow.
Sunday will be a bit milder and there is a better chance for some light rain and snow to mingle together during the day. This will be light rain and drizzle for the most part, so keep the rain gear handy, but don’t change any plans. Highs will be in the 50s keeping the snow confined to the Cascades.
Monday will also be rainy with the mercury in the thermometer hitting the 50s once again. The rain will be light as well, but a bit more widespread than Sunday. This pattern will linger into Tuesday as well.
An interesting meteorological note, the reason for the precipitation is due to two, or maybe three, low pressure cells will orbit off the coast for about a 72-hour period. Each will usher in the precipitation from the southwest. This will keep the rain train going along with the milder conditions. High pressure well inland will prevent the lows from moving onshore, so they eddy off the coast until they finally dissipate later in the week. An atmospheric river sets up for Tuesday that helps the systems “rain out” and the blocking high exit to the east.
Please, Stay safe.
