Lingering mountain snow, scattered showers Friday, mild over the weekend

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Central Oregon will be heading into the first full weekend of March with variably cloudy skies and a slight chance for a stray shower.  The cold pocket of air to our east, the trough of low pressure, is digging south into Arizona today and that is helping to pull down cooler air on the west side. The ridge of high pressure off the coast is slowly moving east and will overtake the area Saturday. In the meantime, clouds and some spotty showers are still possible.

Friday will be partly to mostly cloudy with a slight chance for a passing shower.  There is not much confidence that any rain will make it to the ground but keep the rain gear handy just in case.

Saturday will provide us with a mild and spring-like day as the skies will clear and the mercury in the thermometer will rise into the 60s. Winds will be breezy but not overwhelming. The mountains should see partly cloudy skies, but the groomed snow will be awesome since we got over a foot of new snow this week.

Sunday will see some cloud cover, but no rain. The milder than normal pattern will continue as highs once again break 60. A line of showers arrives well north of the region but will slowly drop south as we move into the new work week.

Monday will be significantly cooler with highs only reaching the upper 40s to low 50s. Mostly cloudy skies by the end of the day and a stray shower is not out of the question.

Tuesday will be the set-up day as the area prepares for some more mountain snow. Highs Tuesday will be in the 40s and west winds will be around 10 – 15 mph.

Wednesday and Thursday will be mild, with highs in the 50s to go along with the scattered showers. Mountain snow is likely and the Cascades may get several inches of new snow.  This may be the beginning of a wet pattern that could last into the weekend.

This weekend we “Spring Forward” as we move into Daylight Saving Time. We push the clocks ahead this Sunday at 2am, so we lose an hour of sleep but sunset is an hour later in the day.

Please, Stay safe.
