Earth Day will be cloudy with periods of light rain and gusty winds.

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Rainy conditions are ending tonight with a drier and cooler pattern replacing the rainy and cloudy one. The bulk of the rain will be north and east of the Tri-Counties therefore we should only receive about a tenth of an inch.

Winds will be from the west today and may gust near 30 to 35 mph at times. Generally, when we see the west winds the crosswinds along 97 and 26 will be a concern.

The next few days will be mostly to partly sunny with temperatures in the low 60s to upper 50s.  Normal highs this time of year are near 60 so we are going to be pretty much on point as far as temps go heading into the weekend.

Thursday will see the skies clearing nicely and the mercury in the thermometer reaching the low 60s. Winds will be relaxing as well with breezy being the best way to define the day.

Friday, the first day of May, will be dry, breezy and near normal under mostly sunny skies. The overnight lows will be near or just above freezing, which is also about right for late April.

Saturday will be similar to Friday with the possibility of a few more clouds. Temperatures are likely to be near 60 again across the area as the breezy pattern also remains.

Sunday may see a few more clouds cross the skies which will allow us to cool slightly. The sky conditions will be defined by a mix of clouds and sunshine, but the chance for showers has not been taken out of the forecast completely. A stray shower is not out of the question, but a very low chance at best.

Monday will begin a bit of a warming trend with highs reaching the low 60s again. There will be mostly to partly cloudy as the chance for a stray shower is still possible, but very low once again.

Tuesday will be quiet and warmer as the mercury hits the middle 60s under mostly sunny skies. Wednesday will be a few degrees warmer as temps approach 70. Sky conditions will remain mostly to partly sunny.

Earth Day was first observed in 1970, when I was in Jr. High School, as a way to bring awareness to the environmental issues of the day. Today it serves as a reminder or inspiration for those wishing to help heal the planet.
