Cool weekend continues before rain chances return to Central Oregon

Central Oregon is enjoying a cooler final weekend of August, with another chilly start followed by plenty of sunshine Sunday.

Temperatures Saturday are staying on the cool side, with Sunday afternoon highs reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s around Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville. Areas closer to the Cascades will generally stay cooler, with highs ranging from the mid-60s to mid-70s, although some valleys could reach the upper 70s.

If you’re heading out early Sunday, grab an extra layer. Overnight temperatures will fall into the mid-30s to lower 40s across much of Central Oregon, while communities including La Pine, Sisters and Sunriver could fall into the lower 30s.

Sunday will otherwise be sunny with light winds, making for a pleasant afternoon outdoors.

Temperatures warm again Monday, with highs in the mid- to upper 80s across portions of Central Oregon.

A bigger change arrives Tuesday as clouds increase and rain chances return. The National Weather Service is forecasting a 40% chance of showers Tuesday across much of the region, followed by cooler and wetter conditions Wednesday and Thursday.

By Wednesday, highs around Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville could fall into the upper 60s to lower 70s, with even cooler temperatures closer to the Cascades. Rain chances increase to 50% Wednesday, with showers becoming likely Wednesday night.
