“I’m excited, but also really nervous”: First day of school for freshmen at Sisters High School

SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Incoming freshmen at Sisters High School had the campus to themselves Monday for a dedicated orientation day to begin the new school year.

The new high school students spent their morning getting to know one another and touring the building. Upperclassmen volunteered as mentors for the day, guiding tours and answering questions for the incoming class.

Freshman Braylin Stanford shared thoughts on entering high school and looking ahead to future goals. “I'm excited, but also really nervous. But I'm excited for, like, more experiences and, like, making more friends and just kind of experiences, like navigating my way in the world and to kind of figure out what I'm going to do for college and stuff,” Stanford said.

Freshman Kirt Jamison noticed creative projects displayed around the building during the orientation. “I'm pretty excited. There's a lot of cool art I saw and past work of students like guitars and stuff that I'm really interested in,” Jamison said.

Freshman Bryleeanne Saunders reflected on managing first-day jitters and setting goals for student life. “I'm honestly really excited. Like I kind of have a little bit of anxiety about it, but it's all right. I really want to say yes to a lot of things this year. I want to try a lot of new things and sports,” Saunders said.

Following lunch, the freshmen spent the remainder of the day navigating a shortened version of their standard class schedule. Students walked from classroom to classroom, meeting their new teachers and learning about expectations for the upcoming academic year.
