Bend 18-year-old arrested on theft, ID theft charges

More charges are possible; other victims sought; teen also accused of violating governor's stay-home order

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Police are looking for other possible victims or suspects after a Bend 18-year-old was arrested on theft, ID theft and other charges, accused of using a credit card stolen from an unlocked car in northwest Bend to make several fraudulent purchases.

Police on Tuesday began investigating the fraudulent use of a credit card stolen from the northwest Bend vehicle, Sgt. Eric Hagan said.

Investigators determined the suspect was Isaac Brewster, who was found at Fred Meyer but ran before officers arrived. He was taken into custody near the store a short time later, Hagan said.

An investigation found that Brewster was in possession of stolen property in his residence and two vehicles, the sergeant said. Police applied for and got a search warrant for them, and the raids turned up numerous suspected stolen items.

Brewster was arrested and booked into the Deschutes County Jail on initial charges of ID theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, first-degree aggravated theft from a building and second-degree theft, Hagan said.

Hagan said the investigation is continuing and more charges are possible against Brewster and others.

Bend police ask if you were the victim of a recent theft, car break-in or fraudulent credit card charges and have not reported it to please file an online report or call the Bend Police Department non-emergency number at 541-693-6911.

Officers are working to identify any other victims and return property to the legal owner. Please be aware that when identifying property, it is important to include serial numbers, personal markings or other specific identifying markings, Hagan said.

Brewster was arraigned Thursday on the district attorney's office's initial charging document that lists nine counts, including first-degree theft, computer crime, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and five counts of ID theft. He's due back in court next Thursday on an expected formal indictment.

The DA's information alleges Brewster stole a man's wallet and used a computer to make numerous purchases with it Tuesday. The listed stores included Fred Meyer, Target, Home Depot and Walmart.

Brewster is also accused in one count of violating the governor's executive order "by engaging in non-essential travel and/or activities (including theft)."
