Early-morning fire heavily damages Madras mobile home; no injuries

Update: Adding video, comments from neighbor

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A fire that apparently began in the area of a bathroom ceiling fan heavily damaged a home in a Madras mobile home park early Friday morning, but there were no injuries, officials said.

Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 crews were dispatched shortly after 1:30 a.m. to the reported fire in the Green Spot Mobile Home Park in the 1100 block of Southwest Highway 97, Deputy Chief Kasey Skaar said.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the eaves and vents of the home, and learned all occupants were confirmed to be out of the house, Skaar said.

Crews put out the fire, which was contained mostly to the attic but caused significant damage. Skaar said they remained on scene for 2 1/2 hours, checking for any extensions and performing salvage and overhaul.

Eyvvonne Quintana witness the fire and said she had woken up to get water when she noticed the fire coming from another trailer. "I'm a little concerned for that side of the trailer park, but I haven't seen any on my side. I can't count on if it happens again, where it would happen but I do keep an eye on the electronics in my home, but I try to unplug everything and turn things off and that helps reduce the chance of a fire."

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears to have originated in the area of a bathroom ceiling fan, the official said.

The American Red Cross was notified for disaster assistance to the displaced occupants.

The Madras Police Department, Jefferson County EMS and Pacific Power assisted on the scene.
