Fire Weather Watches upgraded to Red Flag Warnings
Happy Labor Day, Central Oregon!
Hopefully you've been able to enjoy your holiday weekend so far, even if you've been forced to stay inside because of the smoky conditions.
Air quality continues to be fairly poor across the region. Most of us were in the unhealthy range on Sunday. Now we've dipped into the moderate range according to the Department of Environmental Quality. Sisters is the only city that remains in that unhealthy range.
Smoke levels might change for a brief period of time on Labor Day, as extremely strong northeasterly breezes in the 17-30 mph range are going to push some of the smoke out of the region. That will likely happen in the early afternoon and last through the evening.
However, the haze should return on Tuesday.
The two Fire Weather Watches that begin Monday at 11 a.m. have both been extended and upgraded to Red Flag Warnings. The one that covers most of the High Desert now expires Monday night at 11 p.m. The other the covers places just east of the Cascades like Sisters and La Pine will now last through Tuesday at 11 p.m
Forecast lows for Sunday will be in the low 40s to low 50s.
Forecast highs for Monday will be closer to average for the first time in September, with temperatures expected to top out in the low 80s.
Then we dip below average on Tuesday before climbing back into the 90s by Thursday.
