A Bend bicyclist suffered head injuries and was cited Thursday morning after she failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a car in northwest Bend, police said.

Police responded shortly before 11 a.m. to the crash at the intersection of NW Broadway Street and Colorado Avenue, said Lt. Chris Carney.

An investigation found that Laurel Brauns, 35, was riding her bike southbound on Broadway when she failed to stop at the stop sign at Colorado, Carney said.

A woman driving a VW Jetta was heading west and was unable to stop before colliding with Brauns, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the lieutenant.

Brauns sustained non-life-threatening head injuries, Carney said, and was transported by Bend fire medics to St. Charles-Bend for further evaluation. She also was cited for disobeying a stop sign.

Carney said the woman’s car sustained substantial windshield damage.
