Canned food donation gets free SHARC entry

KTVZ

A donation of three non-perishable food items per person gains free entry to the Sunriver Homeowners Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC) on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18.

SHARC’s outdoor pools and waterslides will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

SHARC’s multi-use outdoor facility features two waterslides for anyone 48″ and taller, a lazy river, splash pad, leisure pool with climbing structures and a toddler pool with adjacent sand play area. It also has a year-round indoor pool which includes spray fountains, dumping buckets, a vortex whirlpool, bubble benches, water basketball, volleyball and lap lanes.

Open swim in the indoor pool will be 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Just bring three non-perishable food items, canned or boxed, per person to receive free admission for the day. A $5 cash donation per person will also be accepted in lieu of food items. Access includes the indoor and outdoor facilities and the year-round tubing hill. All food and cash collected will be donated to Care & Share, a food bank that serves the greater Sunriver area.

“Our ‘Canned Food 4 Fun’ drive serves as a soft opening of the outdoor facilities for the summer season,” said Shawn Cannon, SROA Recreation Director. “It’s a way for us to prepare for summer, to share this beautiful aquatic facility with the general public and help the local food bank. Last year we were able to donate over 1,800 pounds of food by the end of the weekend and we hope to exceed that this year. Be sure to bring your own towels and a lock to secure your items in the locker rooms.”

The Canned Food 4 Fun drive represents a $25 per person savings from SHARC’s summer rates that go into effect the following weekend.

SHARC opened in May 2012 and was paid for by Sunriver property owners. The public is welcome by admission. Multi-day and season passes are available.
