Crook Co., Prineville check sex offender addresses

With the cooperation of the Prineville Police Department and Crook County District Attorney, the Crook County Sheriff’s Office and Prineville police recently completed their annual sex offender address verification effort.

Officers attempted to physically verify the registration compliance of all sex Offenders known to reside in the city of Prineville, the county and within the city’s Urban Growth Boundary, sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Dethman said in a news release issued Sunday.

Neighborhood officers took the files of the 68 state-registered sex offenders and attempted to confirm that they were all still in compliance with state laws regarding their addressing requirements as registered sex offenders.

The checks are now complete, and among the 68 registered sex offenders, Prineville police initiated six investigations regarding failure to register as a sex offender, with those reports going to the DA’s office for charging decisions, Dethman said in a news release Sunday.

Two reports were from existing cases. One sex offender was confirmed to be deceased. One arrest was made for failure to report annually. Six were found to be living in another state and to be properly registered there. Two have active arrest warrants and are still out of compliance from last year’s check.

The sheriff’s office took the files of 72 registered sex offenders and attempted to confirm that they are all still in compliance with state laws regarding their addressing requirements as registered sex offenders.

Deputies initiated three investigations regarding failure to register as a sex offender, with those reports going to the DA for charging decisions.

One sex offender was not located and one was confirmed to be deceased. Two arrests were made for failure to report annually. Four were found to be living in another state and to be properly registered there. One has an active arrest warrant.
