DAR holding two student essay contests

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors one annual essay contest for teens and another for younger children, and the Bend chapter will offer prizes.

This year’s teen essay topic is “Joining Christopher Columbus on His Journey to the New World.” Students in 9th through 12th grades in Bend, Redmond, or Sisters, in public or private schools, or home schooled, may enter.

Bend Chapter NSDAR will award a $100 prize for the local first place winner.

This year’s younger students’ essay topic is “A Child’s Journey Through Ellis Island” honoring the 125th anniversary of the Ellis Island immigration station.

Students in 5th through 8th grades, in public or private schools, or home schooled, may enter. Bend Chapter NSDAR will award a prize for first place winners at each grade level, to include a$50 prize.
