The Bend-La Pine Schools Board of Directors selected Stuart Young to represent Zone 4 in south Deschutes County during a meeting Tuesday evening.

Young has a long background in education, having served as a superintendent in Creswell as well as at schools in Thailand, Japan and Bangladesh.

“We are looking forward to having Stuart join the board. He has an exceptional background in education and we believe his knowledge will be a real asset to the board,” said Board of Directors Co-chairs Cheri Helt and Nori Juba.

They pointed out that the decision was not an easy one, as many qualified candidates applied for the open position.

Young, now retired, lives in Sunriver and is married with three grown children. He currently serves as the chair for the Board of Directors for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Central Oregon.

Young noted his passion for education and is looking forward to collaborating with fellow board members.

The Zone 4 position was open after Mike Jensen stepped down. Young’s term runs until June 30, 2015.
