Temporary trail closures for public safety

Beginning Monday, a temporary closure of sections of the Sun-Lava path and Blackrock trail will be in place until the end of November.

The closure is to allow for construction activities in the vicinity of the Benham bridge along the Sun-Lava path. It will begin on Monday, October 20 and end November 30.

The following trail segments will be closed:

The segment of Sun-Lava path extending .2 miles from its crossing at FSR 9702 to the junction with Deschutes River Trail at Benham bridge. Visitors may detour by sharing FSR 9702 to connect to Deschutes River trail at Benham East trailhead. Blackrock trail segment from the railroad tracks to the Sun-Lava path near Benham bridge. Visitors may detour by connecting to Sun-Lava path near the railroad tracks and on to FSR 9702 for re-connecting with the remaining segment of Black Rock trail.

The Sun-Lava path from Lava Lands Visitor Center to Sunriver, Benham Falls East trailhead, Benham Falls overlook will remain open. Deschutes River trail will primarily remain open; however the Benham bridge segment will be closed intermittently for periods up to 2 days. Visitors may call the Deschutes National Forest at 541-383-4000 for current information on this segment closure.
