KTVZ

The Redmond School District Board of Directors has selected Travis Bennett of Redmond to the district’s five member governing board.

A total of three individuals were interviewed for the board vacancy during a board meeting held at the district office on July 21. Candidates Dearric Winchester, Michael Baumgartner and Travis Bennett were each interviewed for 45 minutes. All interview questions were identical and weighted scores were assigned to each candidate’s response. The candidate with the highest weighted score was selected.

Travis Bennett is currently the principal agent of AIC Insurance Agency in Redmond. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Oregon State University.

“The Redmond School District Board of Directors is honored to appoint Travis Bennett to position three,” shared Rick Bailey, Board Chair. “Travis is truly invested in the Redmond community. His experience both as a parent and as a business owner will bring great perspective to our team. We would also like to extend our gratitude to all of the candidates who applied for this vacancy.”

Bennett replaces the position held by A.J. Losoya, who has resigned from the board due to a new career opportunity. He will be sworn in on August 10, 2016 and will serve through June 30, 2017.

Bailey added, “A.J. Losoya has been a vital member of our board for the past five and half years. We are incredibly thankful for his time, talent and dedication to the students that we serve in Redmond. On behalf of the Redmond School District Board of Directors we wish him every success in his new position.”

The Redmond School District Board of Directors serve overlapping four-year terms as non-salaried trustees of the school district. As elected officials, the board is responsible for the scope, depth and quality of education and is the official policy-making body of the school district.
