Sherwood man arraigned in fatal DUII crash

A Sherwood man was arraigned Monday in Deschutes County Circuit Court on manslaughter and other charges in a recent crash that killed a 2-year-old Bend girl on Hwy. 20 west of Tumalo.

Last week, a grand jury returned an Indictment charging David William Fincher, 46, with first-degree manslaughter, five counts of third-degree assault and DUII.

The Indictment alleges that on Sept. 11, Fincher caused the death of a 2-year old girl, and injured five others while driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Fincher was eastbound in a pickup truck that crossed the center line and struck a car with the child among its occupants. Fincher’s truck then struck a third car causing injuries to all three occupants.

Alcohol was a factor in the crash, DA John Hummel said Monday.

“Any loss of life is difficult for family and friends of to bear,” Hummel said. “But the loss of an infant is particularly heart-wrenching. Our traffic team is comprised of some of the best trial attorneys in the state, and we will work hard to ensure that justice is done in this case.”

Fincher is being held at the county jail on $500,000 bail. He’s due back in court Oct. 10 to enter a plea.
