DENVER (AP) — A lawsuit accusing Denver police of using indiscriminate force against people protesting the killing of George Floyd two years ago is being heard by a jury in federal court. One of the lawyers for the 12 people who brought the case told jurors during opening statements Monday that police targeted peaceful protesters with less lethal force like pepper balls because they didn’t like their message critical of the police. However, a lawyer representing Denver stressed that police faced “unprecedented violence and destruction” due to agitators and said that some of the protesters in the lawsuit supported the illegal actions of others.
