Crook County encourages residents to light up green for veterans this November

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) — Crook County is inviting residents, businesses and community organizations to participate in a nationwide effort honoring veterans ahead of Veterans Day.

The county is joining Operation Green Light, encouraging community members to display green lights at their homes, businesses and public spaces from November 4 through 11, 2026, as a visible show of appreciation for those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The initiative brings together communities across the country to recognize veterans, honor their sacrifices and raise awareness of resources available to veterans and their families.

“Veterans have given so much in service to our country, and recognizing their contributions should extend beyond Veterans Day,” Crook County Commissioner Susan Hermreck said. “Operation Green Light is a simple but meaningful way for our community to come together, show our appreciation, and remind veterans and their families that they are valued here in Crook County.”

Crook County Commissioner Seth Crawford said the effort is especially meaningful for a county with one of the highest numbers of veterans per capita.

He said the green lights will serve as a visible reminder to residents and visitors of the community's appreciation for veterans, their families and the sacrifices they have made.

How to participate

Community members can take part by:

  • Displaying a green light at their home, business or organization from November 4-11.
  • Sharing photos of their green lights on social media using #OperationGreenLight.
  • Encouraging friends, family members and local businesses to participate.

Crook County Veteran Services also encourages residents to connect veterans and their families with available resources and support.
